During the FY 2022/23, considerable progress was achieved toward increased access to water in the County; 27 pipelines totaling 76.55 km were laid reticulating approximately 600m3 of water and serving an estimated 1,814 HHs daily. 44 Boreholes were scheduled for drilling across the County, mainly in areas with plentiful groundwater (Msambweni, Lunga Lunga, and Matuga SCs). Of this number, 29 were done successfully, producing an aggregated 279.3m3/hour and serving 980 HHs, 1 ECDE, 5 Dispensaries, 1 market and one VTC. 17 small pans and dams were done, 14 of them to completion while 3 spilled over to the next FY. The 17 pans and dam have a combined design capacity of 1,099,969m3 and can yield 2,121m3/day, serving 3,613 HHs. The main challenge was low unit budgetary allocations leading to reduced scope and compromised utility value. The main challenges faced by the Department during the year under review included; Weak coordination between the county and other national institutions in service delivery, mainly in inadequate consultation during project identification, implementation, and bulk water allocations. Communities lack technical and governance capacity for the operation and maintenance of water supply systems, leading to poor infrastructure maintenance and, hence delays in water source repairs once they break down. Rationing of water by CWWDA in Mzima line & Kinango town. Recommendations for improved performance going forward include; Promote partnerships with non-state actors and the private sector in water management Establish a partnership with the national government Repair and maintenance of water infrastructure Regular monitoring of water reservoirs and water infrastructure. Establish water quality testing and treatment facilities for enhanced, regular water safety. Conduct EIA/EA for new water projects
